Creative Synergies in Media Production – Week 1

In the first week of this module, I assembled three moodboards inspired by things I love such as retro sci-fi, action comic books and cartoons on Pinterest. The three moodboards were based on these motifs:

For character design, I chose designs based on popular culture like American superhero comics from Marvel and DC Comics (and their respective animated adaptations), classic Disney films, the amazing artwork of Genndy Tartakovsky cartoons (e.g. Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack), retro sci-fi covers, the original Star Wars trilogy, Looney Tunes, Franco-Belgian comics such as the iconic Asterix and many more.

For environment design, I was inspired by miscellaneous sci-fi art compositions such as predominately retro book covers and artwork that feature a space backdrop because I am fascinated by cosmic settings and the amount of detail put into these illustrations.

For colour palettes, I selected colour schemes that were influenced by a neon aesthetic mixed in with the tenebrous and gritty atmosphere of the classic DCAU cartoons like Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond (which was called Batman of the Future in the UK) for instance.
